Curating the Visible
Executive Director, Aperture | Former Curator, MoMA
The Lens of History
Photography is not merely a method of documentation; it is a mechanism for understanding the complexities of the modern world. Throughout my career—spanning over two decades at The Museum of Modern Art and now leading Aperture—I have been driven by a singular inquiry: how do images shape our collective memory and cultural identity?
From the modernist experiments of Latin America to the contemporary dialogues reshaping global narratives, my work focuses on bridging the gap between historical scholarship and accessible public engagement. The role of a curator is to construct meaning, to place disparate visual moments into a constellation that reveals something new about our humanity.
This digital archive serves as a repository of that ongoing exploration—featuring catalogues of past exhibitions, critical essays, and upcoming projects that continue to push the boundaries of the photographic medium.
